V.O. Chidambaranar Port Implements Cutting-Edge Anti-Drone System
New Delhi, 06 February 2026 – In a pioneering move for maritime safety, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has initiated the deployment of an advanced Anti-Drone System, making it the first port in India to step up its security measures against unauthorized aerial threats. This initiative marks a significant milestone in fortifying critical port infrastructure, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to maritime and coastal security.
The new system integrates a sophisticated Radio Frequency (RF) and radar-based drone detection and jamming framework. Designed specifically for the unique challenges of port environments, it offers comprehensive 360-degree coverage. The system is capable of detecting, tracking, classifying, and neutralizing drones within an effective range of up to 5 kilometers, ensuring that strategic assets and personnel remain protected.
The project was officially inaugurated by Mr. A. Ganesan, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, along with Mr. Anurag Agarwal from Central Electronics Limited (CEL), a Government of India enterprise. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials including Shri. Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE Chairperson, and Deputy Chairperson Shri. Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS. The completion of this project is expected within the next three months.

This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and the Maritime India Vision 2030, spearheaded by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The implementation of this advanced anti-drone technology will enhance airspace surveillance and emergency preparedness, positioning the V.O. Chidambaranar Port as a leader in maritime resilience and security compliance with international norms.
Chairman Susanta Kumar Purohit emphasized the importance of this system, noting that it demonstrates the Port’s anticipatory measures in securing essential maritime infrastructure. He remarked that the use of modern surveillance and counter-drone technologies not only boosts operational safety but also reflects the Port’s unwavering commitment to enhancing national security.
