Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Hosts ‘Rongalir Enajori’ at His Residence in Delhi
On Thursday, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, hosted a lively event named ‘Rongalir Enajori’ to celebrate Rongali Bihu and the Assamese New Year at his official residence in New Delhi. The gathering brought together prominent figures, including Delhi’s Chief Minister, Ms. Rekha Gupta, and Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, along with various dignitaries and members of the Assamese and Northeastern communities residing in the capital.
Significance of Rongali Bihu
During the celebration, Shri Sonowal expressed his heartfelt wishes, emphasizing the festival’s role in inspiring unity and progress for the nation. He stated, “Rongali Bihu brings new energy and inspiration for all of us to move forward for the nation’s progress. This festival is not just about celebration — it is about unity, tradition, and our shared cultural identity.” He highlighted that even while away from home, the event reflects the deep-rooted connection that every Assamese has with their heritage. The sounds of traditional Bihu songs and the rhythmic beats of Dhols filled the air, creating an atmosphere of joy and pride.
Preserving Cultural Heritage
Shri Sonowal urged the youth to cherish and promote the rich cultural legacy of festivals like Bihu, which symbolize India’s cultural unity. He quoted renowned Assamese singer Bhupen Hazarika, saying, “Spring is the soul of the people. It inspires us to dedicate ourselves to the progress of our nation.” He also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India), encouraging attendees to pledge their commitment to building a self-reliant nation during this festive season.

Chief Minister Ms. Rekha Gupta praised Shri Sonowal for organizing the event, stating that Rongali Bihu carries a message of harmony and goodwill. She noted that the festival showcases India’s cultural diversity while reinforcing unity. Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju also addressed the audience, highlighting the strong bonds among the communities of Northeast India and their contribution to national development. The evening concluded with captivating musical performances by renowned Assamese artists, including Nilutpal Bora, Surekha Chetri, and Jutimala Buragohain, who enchanted the audience with traditional melodies and rhythms.
