Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Visits Vidisha Parliamentary Constituency
Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, made a significant visit to his parliamentary constituency of Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh. During his visit, he participated in a program at the agricultural produce market in Bilkisganj, where he engaged with farmers and women beneficiaries. The minister distributed benefits under various government schemes and inspected health camps and exhibitions organized by local organizations, emphasizing the government’s commitment to rural development and women’s empowerment.
Empowering Women Through Government Initiatives
At the event, Shri Chouhan spoke passionately about the importance of serving the community, stating, “Everyone lives for themselves, but a true life is lived in the service of the people, society, and the nation.” He encouraged women attending the health camp to undergo comprehensive medical check-ups, assuring them that any necessary treatment would be provided at no cost. The minister highlighted the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana,’ which aims to transform the lives of women, and the ‘Lakhpati Didi Abhiyan,’ designed to enhance the income of rural women. He emphasized the central government’s commitment to empowering women economically, aiming for every sister to earn at least ₹1 lakh annually through self-help groups.
Housing and Infrastructure Development
Shri Chouhan also addressed housing issues under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin, revealing that Madhya Pradesh has received 19 lakh houses to date. He assured that ongoing surveys would include those previously omitted from the housing list, promising that no poor person would remain in a kutcha house. The minister stressed the government’s goal of providing electricity to even the most remote areas, stating, “Electricity will be provided even if only five houses exist in a location.” He reiterated the commitment to ensuring that every poor family has access to a pucca house, electricity, and a dignified life.
Support for Farmers Facing Crop Damage
During his address, Shri Chouhan acknowledged the challenges faced by farmers due to recent heavy rainfall, which has caused significant damage to soybean crops. He assured farmers that the government would conduct a thorough survey and provide compensation under the crop insurance scheme. He emphasized the collaborative efforts of both the central and state governments to support farmers, stating, “Farmers will not be allowed to suffer any losses, and every eligible farmer will receive timely benefits under the schemes.”
Health Initiatives to Combat Tuberculosis
The Union Minister also expressed his commitment to eradicating tuberculosis (TB) in the Sehore district. He announced that teams of doctors are actively conducting surveys and that free medicines and nutritional support would be provided to all TB patients. So far, 500 patients, including 90 pregnant women, have been screened, with arrangements made for their treatment. Shri Chouhan called for public cooperation, stating, “This campaign to eliminate TB will succeed only through collective efforts, and together we will make Sehore district TB-free.”
