Understanding IPL 2025 Playoff Scenarios: Key Steps for Each Team

The IPL 2025 is set to resume on May 17, nine days after a match between the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was suspended due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. With only 13 games left in the league stage, the competition is intensifying as teams vie for a spot in the playoffs. The top three teamsโ€”Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kingsโ€”are on the verge of securing their qualification, while several other teams are battling for the remaining playoff berths.

## Playoff Race Heats Up

As the league returns, the focus sharpens on the teams striving for playoff positions. The Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings are in a strong position, each needing just one more victory to guarantee their spots in the final four. The race for the final playoff position is particularly fierce, with four teams still in contention. The Mumbai Indians, currently sitting in 4th place with 14 points, are poised for two critical matches that could determine their playoff fate. Their upcoming clash against the Delhi Capitals on May 21 is pivotal, followed by a concluding match against the Punjab Kings in Jaipur.

The Delhi Capitals, led by Axar Patel, are also in the mix. With 13 points and three matches left, they have a chance to secure their playoff spot. They will face tough opponents, including the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, before concluding their league campaign against the Punjab Kings.

## Challenging Path for KKR and LSG

The Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants find themselves in a challenging situation as they vie for a playoff spot. KKR currently holds the 6th position with 11 points from 12 games, while LSG is positioned 7th with 10 points from 11 matches. Both teams must win all their remaining matches to have any hope of qualifying, and they will also need favorable outcomes from the teams above them. The road ahead is steep, and their chances remain slim as the league’s intensity ramps up.

## Teams Facing Elimination

At the other end of the standings, the bottom three teamsโ€”Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabadโ€”have already been eliminated from playoff contention. Their disappointing campaigns have left them with no chance to advance, but with seven games remaining, the outcomes of these matches could still influence which teams join them in the exit. While these teams may not be fighting for a title, their matches could significantly impact the playoff race for others still in contention.
