Ubisoft Set to Release New Ghost Recon Title

A new installment in the Ghost Recon franchise is officially in the works at Ubisoft, as confirmed by company executives during their recent annual general meeting. While the game has not yet been formally announced, Ubisoft has hinted at multiple unannounced projects from its popular series. This marks the first new Ghost Recon title since 2019’s Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which did not meet sales expectations.

Details on the New Ghost Recon Game

During the annual general meeting, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that a new Ghost Recon game is part of the company’s upcoming releases. However, he did not provide specific details such as the title or expected release date. Guillemot emphasized the importance of enhancing existing experiences while preparing for future launches, including Ghost Recon and The Division. CFO Frederick Duguet also mentioned the franchise, indicating that part of Tencent’s investment in Ubisoft would support the development of major brand names like Ghost Recon. This suggests a commitment to revitalizing the franchise and potentially expanding its reach in the gaming market.

Ubisoft’s Broader Game Development Strategy

Duguet did not elaborate on specific titles but confirmed that Ubisoft’s future lineup includes significant productions for its leading franchises, expected to be released in the fiscal year 2027-28. The company is prioritizing quality over speed, allowing more time for development to ensure that its major titles meet high standards. This approach aligns with Guillemot’s earlier statements during Ubisoft’s FY 2025 earnings call, where he noted the decision to delay major productions to create optimal conditions for success. The positive reception of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which underwent two delays for additional polish before its March launch, exemplifies this strategy.

Ubisoft is also working on various projects, including the next mainline single-player Assassin’s Creed game, titled Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe, and a multiplayer title, Assassin’s Creed: Codename Invictus. Additionally, a mobile game, Assassin’s Creed Jade, is in development, along with remakes of older titles, including a rumored remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Other major franchises, such as Far Cry and Rainbow Six, are also reportedly in development, alongside the remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, which aims for a 2026 release.

Shareholder Concerns and Future Investments

During the meeting, Guillemot and Duguet addressed shareholder concerns regarding Ubisoft’s declining stock price, which fell by 40 percent in 2024 following disappointing launches of games like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws. Guillemot acknowledged that the weakened Star Wars brand may have contributed to the underperformance of Star Wars Outlaws. The discussion highlighted the challenges Ubisoft faces in maintaining investor confidence amid fluctuating market conditions.

In March, Ubisoft announced the formation of a new subsidiary dedicated to its core intellectual properties, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, backed by a substantial investment of EUR 1.16 billion (approximately Rs. 10,694 crore) from Tencent. This move underscores Ubisoft’s commitment to strengthening its flagship franchises and enhancing its overall market position as it navigates the evolving gaming landscape.
