Truecaller to Remove Call Recording Functionality for iPhone Users Starting September 30

Truecaller, the popular caller identification app, is set to discontinue its call recording feature for iPhone users starting September 30. This decision comes as the company shifts its focus back to enhancing its core functionality of combating spam calls. While the feature will remain available on Android devices, iPhone users will need to take action to save any existing recordings before the deadline, as they will no longer be accessible after the change.

No More Call Recording on iPhone With Truecaller

Truecaller has announced that its call recording functionality for iPhone will cease to operate after September 30. This change was first reported by TechCrunch and signifies a significant shift in the app’s offerings. Users who have previously utilized the call recording feature will find that any recordings saved within the app will become inaccessible once the deadline passes. Nakul Kabra, the Product Director for iOS at Truecaller, explained that the decision aligns with the company’s renewed focus on enhancing its spam-fighting capabilities. The app will prioritize features like real-time caller identification through Live Caller ID and automatic spam call blocking.

Currently, iPhone users have a more complex process for recording calls compared to their Android counterparts. While Android users can easily access a dedicated button for call recording, iPhone users must initiate a recording line through the app and then merge calls. An alternative method involves using a floating action button when making calls through the native dialer. However, all these functionalities will be discontinued for iPhone users after September 30, leaving them to rely on other methods for call management.

How to Save Call Recordings on iPhone

For iPhone users who wish to retain their call recordings before the feature is removed, Truecaller has provided several options. Users can download their saved recordings and store them locally on their devices, share them via email or messaging apps, or change their storage preference from Truecaller to iCloud. To save recordings, users should open the Truecaller app and navigate to the Record tab. From there, they can access the Settings icon and adjust their storage preference to iCloud.

If the iCloud storage option appears greyed out, users can enable it by going to their iPhone Settings, selecting their profile, and navigating to iCloud settings. Here, they can turn on the Truecaller toggle under the Saved to iCloud section. Additionally, users can save specific recordings by swiping left on the desired recording in the Record tab and selecting the Share option. This allows them to either save the recording locally in the Files app or share it through email or messaging platforms.

Future of Call Recording on Android

While Truecaller has confirmed the discontinuation of call recording for iPhone users, there has been no announcement regarding similar changes for Android devices. Currently, Android users can still utilize the call recording feature through a dedicated button on the Truecaller dialer. The company has not indicated whether it plans to alter this functionality in the future. As Truecaller continues to enhance its spam-fighting features, users will be keenly watching for any updates regarding the availability of call recording on both platforms.

As the deadline approaches, iPhone users are encouraged to take the necessary steps to save their recordings. With the focus shifting towards improving spam call management, Truecaller aims to provide users with a more streamlined and effective experience in identifying and blocking unwanted calls.
