Tripura Hosts 3rd Regional Dialogue to Enhance State Governance
The NITI Aayog, in partnership with the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT), successfully held the 3rd Regional Dialogue under the State Support Mission (SSM) on February 3, 2026, in Agartala. This event brought together representatives from 14 Eastern and North-Eastern States/Union Territories to facilitate dialogue and share insights on various SSM initiatives, aiming to strengthen the roles of State Institutions for Transformation (SITs) in shaping state policies and aligning with the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Strengthening Collaborative Governance
This regional dialogue marks the third in a series focusing on enhancing the cooperation between the NITI Aayog and various state entities. Previous dialogues were conducted in Dehradun on June 2, 2025, and in Pune on September 25, 2025, for northern states. The event highlighted the importance of structured engagement among states and emphasized the need for shared experiences in reforming governance.
Key Participants and Insights
The inaugural session featured prominent figures including Tripura’s Chief Minister, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha; Chief Secretary Shri Jitendra Kumar Sinha; and representatives from NITI Aayog, including Rohit Kumar and K.S. Rejimon. They underscored the centrality of SITs in implementing reforms and fostering inter-state learning under the SSM framework.
Innovative Approaches to Governance
Discussions at the event kicked off with a presentation on the NITI for States initiative, which promotes cooperative federalism and highlights ongoing initiatives. Topics included the Viksit Bharat Strategy Room aimed at promoting data-driven decision-making among states.
Further, a dedicated session focused on the evolving role of SITs revealed that they are transitioning from traditional planning to a comprehensive approach involving long-term visioning and evidence-based policy creation. Participants concurred on strengthening institutional mechanisms for governance through better monitoring frameworks and enhanced departmental collaboration.
Global Partnerships for Development
Another vital discussion examined the role of global partnerships in promoting inclusive growth in the North Eastern and Eastern regions. Development partners were identified as crucial players in complementing government efforts through strategic institutional partnerships and innovative financing.
Charting a Vision for 2047
The dialogue also set the stage for discussions on State Vision @2047, illustrating the importance of developing clear, data-driven goals and roadmaps. Successful examples from various states showcased how measurable objectives and feedback mechanisms can hasten progress towards national aspirations.
The session concluded with an open forum aimed at defining a future roadmap for the State Support Mission, with a focus on reinforcing state institutions to foster growth and development.
