The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today released a consultation paper on the “Review of the terms and conditions of PMRTS and CMRTS licences”.

Previously, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), with its application dated 02.06.2022, had requested TRAI to provide recommendations on the terms and conditions for the issuance of new licenses for CMRTS and PMRTS services, in particular regarding the technical conditions (i.e. connectivity with PSTN, Internet, use of digital technology, spectrum allocation to PMRTS, use of network slicing under 5G, etc.) and financial aspects, etc. TRAI was also asked to express its opinion on any other issues deemed relevant to the CMRTS and PMRTS licences. Along with this reference, the DoT has also attached the statements received from the PMRTS licensees, their Association and the CMRTS licensee. In this regard, TRAI, with its various communications, has requested DoT to provide information on the matter. In response, DoT provided its inputs to TRAI.

In this regard, a consultation paper on the “Review of the terms and conditions of PMRTS and CMRTS licenses” has been published on the TRAI website www.trai.gov.in, seeking input from interested parties. Interested parties are invited to send written comments on the issues raised in the consultation paper by 26.09.2023 and counter-comments by 10.10.2023.
