TRAI Evaluates Mobile Network Quality on Jaipur-Udaipur Rail Route and in Udaipur and Rajsamand Cities
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has published the results of an Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted along the Jaipur-Udaipur rail route and in the cities of Udaipur and Rajsamand during September 2025. This comprehensive assessment aimed to evaluate the quality of mobile network services, including voice and data, provided by various Telecom Service Providers (TSPs). The findings, based on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as call setup success rates and data speeds, are intended to inform consumers and motivate TSPs to enhance their services.
Overview of the Drive Test
The IDT was carried out over a span of four days, from September 1 to September 4, 2025, covering a total distance of 430.7 kilometers along the Jaipur-Udaipur rail route and 313.1 kilometers within Udaipur and Rajsamand cities. The tests were conducted under the supervision of TRAI’s Regional Office in Jaipur, utilizing SIM cards from all major TSPs across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. The data collected during the drive tests was analyzed using advanced software tools, with the results published to provide insights for consumers and to encourage improvements in service quality by TSPs.
Findings from the Jaipur-Udaipur Rail Route
The IDT results for the Jaipur-Udaipur rail route revealed significant variations in service quality among different TSPs. For voice services, the Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR) was highest for Airtel at 100%, while BSNL recorded a lower rate of 82.29%. The average call setup time also varied, with Airtel achieving an average of 1.88 seconds compared to BSNL’s 3.36 seconds. The Drop Call Rate (DCR) was notably low for Airtel at 0.70%, while BSNL faced a much higher rate of 18.06%.
In terms of data services, the average download throughput was highest for Airtel at 67.12 Mbps, while BSNL lagged significantly with only 2.98 Mbps. The average upload throughput also showed a similar trend, with Airtel at 13.24 Mbps compared to BSNL’s 3.37 Mbps. These findings highlight the disparities in service quality and performance among TSPs operating in this region.
Insights from Udaipur and Rajsamand Cities
In Udaipur and Rajsamand, the drive test results for voice services indicated a strong performance across all TSPs. Airtel again led with a CSSR of 100%, while BSNL and RJIL followed closely with rates of 96.62% and 100%, respectively. The average call setup time was notably efficient for Airtel at 1.75 seconds, while BSNL recorded 3.27 seconds. The DCR was zero for Airtel, indicating no dropped calls, whereas BSNL had a DCR of 2.00%.
For data services in these cities, Airtel achieved an average download throughput of 154.32 Mbps, significantly outperforming BSNL’s 3.91 Mbps. The average upload throughput also favored Airtel at 29.45 Mbps compared to BSNL’s 3.17 Mbps. These results underscore the need for TSPs to address performance gaps and enhance their service offerings in urban areas.
