Trade Marks and Patent Agent Examinations 2026 Results Unveiled
The Trade Marks Agent Examination (TAE) and the Patent Agent Examination (PAE) for the year 2026 were recently held, drawing in a significant number of candidates eager to qualify in the field of intellectual property rights. The TAE occurred on January 10, 2026, with 819 individuals registered to take part, while the PAE took place the following day, attracting 5,535 candidates. Both examinations were organized by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM).
The TAE witnessed participation from 388 candidates for Paper I and 362 candidates for Paper II. In contrast, the PAE had 2,402 candidates appearing for Paper I and 2,315 candidates for Paper II. These examinations were conducted simultaneously across 13 centers in various cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, and Thiruvananthapuram, ensuring accessibility for aspiring agents.
Exam Format and Requirements
Each examination comprises three stages: Paper I, featuring multiple-choice questions (MCQs), and Paper II, a subjective assessment. Both papers carry a maximum of 100 marks. The goal of these assessments is to evaluate candidates’ understanding of the relevant Acts and Rules, their application of legal principles, and their analytical skills in interpreting these provisions. Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 50 percent in both papers, along with an overall score of 60 percent to qualify for registration as Patent Agents or Trade Marks Agents.
