Threads Tests New Feature to Import X Creators
Threads is currently piloting an innovative feature designed to simplify the process of importing social connections from other microblogging platforms. This beta feature, which is not yet available to all users, aims to allow Threads users to seamlessly follow the same accounts they engage with on X, formerly known as Twitter, without the hassle of manual searches. The development was highlighted by a former Meta employee, indicating a significant step towards enhancing user connectivity across platforms.

The new feature, identified as “Creators from X,” was uncovered by Jane Manchun Wong, a former security engineer at Meta. She shared details about the feature in a post on X, revealing that it can be accessed through the “Follow and invite friends” section within the Threads app settings. This functionality is designed to streamline the user experience by allowing individuals to follow popular creators they already engage with on X directly on Threads.
To utilize this feature, users will need to follow a series of steps. First, they should open the Threads app and navigate to the user profile. Next, they will tap on “Settings and Privacy” followed by “Your Account.” Here, a “Download” option for archived data will appear. Users may need to wait up to three days for a download link to be sent to their email after tapping this option. Once they receive the link, they can download and unzip the data file, locate the “following.js” file, and upload it on the Threads website.
In a statement to TechCrunch, Meta spokesperson Alec Booker confirmed the testing phase of this feature, stating, “We’re currently testing a way for you to find and follow creators from other platforms on Threads, making it easier to connect with the people and conversations that matter to you.” However, it is important to note that this feature is still in beta, meaning only a limited number of users currently have access to it.
Current Limitations and Future Prospects
As it stands, Threads only allows users to find accounts from other Meta platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. The introduction of the “Creators from X” feature could significantly expand this capability, enabling users to connect with creators from X as well. This enhancement could potentially increase user engagement on Threads by allowing for a more integrated social experience.
Despite the excitement surrounding this new feature, its availability remains restricted. Reports indicate that Gadgets 360 staff were unable to confirm its presence on the Threads app for both Android and iOS devices. As the feature continues to undergo testing, users are hopeful for a broader rollout that will enhance their ability to connect with their favorite creators across platforms.
