Third Convocation Ceremony Celebrates Agricultural Achievements

The Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University in Jhansi hosted its Third Convocation Ceremony with great enthusiasm, marking a momentous occasion for graduates and the institution. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, served as the Chief Guest. He began his address by chanting slogans of national pride and personally conferred degrees upon 365 students while also presenting gold medals to 15 distinguished scholars for their academic excellence.

Shri Chouhan emphasized that a convocation is not merely a conclusion but a new beginning focused on nation-building. He urged the graduates to honor their educational pathway by applying their knowledge, skills, and values for the betterment of India, under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of global respect and contribution.

A Call to Action

During his address, Shri Chouhan highlighted the significance of the guru-shishya tradition, urging students to possess integrity, dedication, and a resolute spirit to achieve their goals. He praised Indian farmers and agricultural scientists for ensuring the country’s food security and stressed the importance of both quality and nutrition in food production.

The Minister outlined governmental efforts to improve agricultural processes, noting that a transparent fertilizer subsidy system is being implemented through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), which has already created Farmer IDs for 8.5 crore farmers, with an aim to reach 12 crore. He also introduced the ‘Bharat Extension Platform’, a tool designed to provide farmers with comprehensive crop-related information via mobile technology.

Innovative Agricultural Future

According to Shri Chouhan, the Bundelkhand region has the potential to spearhead a pulses revolution in India. He reiterated that achieving the vision of a global ‘Food Basket’ relies on transferring scientific knowledge to farmers, urging the importance of planting saplings to promote sustainability.

Dr. M.L. Jat, the Guest of Honour and Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, praised the university for its pivotal role in agricultural education and innovation. He called on scientists to ensure research outcomes benefit every farmer and urged students to view agriculture as a viable entrepreneurial avenue.

University’s Growth and Development

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh provided an overview of the university’s progress since its inception in 2014, noting an increase from five to 1,100 students, with the highest number of female students enrolled. He confirmed that the institution is not only focused on education but also functions as a training and advisory center for farmers.

New initiatives such as a College of Fisheries and a College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Datia, along with a College of Horticulture in Morena, were announced as part of the university’s expansion.

During the ceremony, degrees were awarded to 365 graduates, comprising 235 undergraduates, 127 postgraduates, and 3 Ph.D. scholars. Eight undergraduate, seven postgraduate, and three Ph.D. students received gold medals for their exceptional academic accomplishments.

The event concluded with the singing of Vande Mataram, and Shri Chouhan planted a tree on campus, receiving a Guard of Honour from NCC cadets. The Union Minister also engaged with local farmers through a Kisan Chaupal and toured demonstration plots showcasing mustard and gram cultivation.
