The Technology Development Board (TDB) of India’s Department of Science & Technology has approved financial support for Westech Power Management Pvt. Ltd., based in Pune, Maharashtra. This funding will facilitate the development of a “Mobile High-Power Containerised Supercapacitor Energy Storage System.” The initiative aims to meet the pressing energy demands of India’s industrial and defense sectors by creating a high-performance, modular energy storage solution that can charge and discharge rapidly.

Westech Power Management Pvt. Ltd. is set to design and commercialize an innovative supercapacitor-based energy storage system. This project is crucial for various applications, including pulse power, grid stabilization, and industrial automation. The new technology aims to enhance energy resilience, decrease reliance on imports, and foster domestic manufacturing of advanced energy solutions. Founded by Amit Kaul Bamzai and Dr. Rohini Bhat, Westech Power Management has been at the forefront of developing high-power density cells and containerized supercapacitor systems. The company has conducted extensive in-house research and development, with early-stage support from the Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL) under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This collaboration highlights the connection between scientific research and national defense applications. Westech currently holds two patents for its innovations: “A High-Capacity Supercapacitor Cell and Method Thereof” and “108 Volt Supercapacitor Module and Method Thereof.” Additionally, the company has five more patents pending, focusing on electrode materials and scalable supercapacitor modules.
