Strike Averted as Chhattisgarh Gramin Bank Dispute Resolved

A significant breakthrough has emerged from the conclusive efforts of the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Raipur. The team, under the aegis of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, successfully resolved an industrial dispute involving employees and officers of Chhattisgarh Gramin Bank, thus averting a planned one-day strike.

The dispute was initiated by the All India Regional Rural Bank Employees’ Association (AIRRBEA), Chhattisgarh Unit, aspiring to address several outstanding demands of the bank’s workforce. The potential strike was set for June 29, 2026, leading to an urgent call for negotiations.

Conciliation Efforts Yield Results

Conciliation proceedings took place on June 22, 2026, from 11:00 AM until 8:30 PM, where extensive discussions unfolded between bank management and employee union representatives. Such dialogue led to the drafting of a tripartite Memorandum of Settlement under Section 53(3) of the Industrial Relations Code, 2020, which subsequently prompted the withdrawal of the strike.

Impact on Employees and Financials

This resolution is set to benefit approximately 2,610 employees of Chhattisgarh Gramin Bank, with a financial impact estimated at ₹15 crore. The timely intervention also prevented potential losses of ₹1.29 crore that would have occurred had the strike proceeded.

Management’s Role in the Settlement

The management team of Chhattisgarh Gramin Bank, spearheaded by the General Manager of Administration and the Chief Manager of HR, played a crucial role in reaching a compromise. They facilitated constructive dialogues, addressing multiple contentious issues while also reinforcing their commitment to comply with statutory labour obligations. Issues such as timely wage payments and adherence to working hours were emphasized during discussions, ensuring a better understanding of employees’ rights and compliance requirements.

Commitment to Industrial Harmony

This successful settlement underscores the dedication of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) Organization to foster industrial harmony and protect the interests of both workers and employers. By resolving disputes through effective mediation, uninterrupted public services are secured, enhancing the operational stability of financial institutions like Chhattisgarh Gramin Bank.
