Strengthening Global Cooperation for Peace

In a world marked by geopolitical tensions and conflicts, the call for unity among nations has never been more urgent. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh recently emphasized this need during the Ambassadorsโ€™ Round-Table held in New Delhi on January 10, 2025. This event served as a precursor to Aero India 2025, Asia’s largest aerospace and defense exhibition. Singh highlighted the importance of collective action among like-minded countries to ensure mutual prosperity and global peace. His remarks resonate with the current security environment, which is characterized by rapid changes and numerous challenges.

The Importance of Global Cohesion

During his address, Shri Rajnath Singh stressed that the global community must work together to overcome existing geopolitical tensions. He underscored the significance of collective actions for peace and prosperity, stating that without such efforts, future generations may miss out on the economic growth and technological advancements of today. The Raksha Mantri pointed out that India is emerging as a leading voice for the Global South, advocating for a multi-aligned policy approach. This approach ensures that diverse perspectives are taken into account in the pursuit of collective prosperity.

Singh articulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s commitment to addressing global challenges through five guiding principles: Respect, Dialogue, Cooperation, Peace, and Prosperity. He emphasized that fostering unity among nations is essential for tackling contemporary challenges. The principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” meaning “One Earth, One Family,” has been a cornerstone of India’s diplomatic efforts. This principle was also the theme of the G-20 Summit in 2023, reflecting India’s commitment to shared responsibility and prosperity.

Aero India 2025: A Platform for Collaboration

Aero India, described by Singh as a vital event for nations to forge bonds beyond borders, serves as a meeting ground for the aerospace and defense sectors. The biennial exhibition showcases products and technologies while facilitating strategic partnerships. Singh highlighted that Aero India 2025 will provide opportunities for business, technology transfer, joint development, and co-production among various industries.

India’s defense industrial ecosystem is one of the largest in Asia, and the government is committed to enhancing its capabilities further. The Raksha Mantri noted that the Indian aerospace and defense sector presents attractive opportunities for foreign companies looking to establish new ventures and partnerships. He cited the collaboration between Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Airbus Defence & Space in setting up a manufacturing facility for the C-295 transport aircraft as a significant milestone.

Emphasizing Self-Reliance and Technological Advancement

Shri Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s focus on self-reliance through strategic partnerships and technological collaborations in the defense and aerospace sectors. He mentioned that the government has implemented several transformative policy reforms aimed at strengthening the defense industry ecosystem. These initiatives promote domestic design, development, manufacturing, and exports, recognizing the strategic importance of the aerospace sector.

The government has designated aerospace as a core sector of the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, which aims to make India self-reliant. As a result, the aerospace and defense sectors are making significant strides in developing cutting-edge technologies, with participation from both public and private industries. Singh expressed optimism about Aero India 2025, viewing it as an opportunity for friendly nations to explore strengths and capabilities in the defense sector.

Looking Ahead: Opportunities for Future Collaboration

As Aero India 2025 approaches, Shri Rajnath Singh looks forward to welcoming ministers, officials, and business delegations from various countries. The event will serve as a platform for exploring new areas of collaboration in the defense sector. During the Round-Table, ambassadors and high commissioners were briefed on the major events planned for Aero India 2025 and were personally invited to participate.
