Streamlined Online Registration for Local Cable Operators
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced significant changes to the registration process for Local Cable Operators (LCOs). Starting today, the registration will be conducted entirely online, making it easier for operators to obtain their licenses. This move aims to enhance efficiency and reduce the bureaucratic hurdles that previously plagued the registration process.
Transition to Online Registration
The shift to an online registration system marks a major improvement over the previous method, which required LCOs to register in person at local head post offices. This manual process was often cumbersome and time-consuming, leading to delays and frustration among applicants. With the new system, LCOs can now apply for registration or renewal through the Broadcast Seva Portal of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). Key Features of the Amended Rules

The processing fee for registration or renewal is set at a reasonable five thousand rupees, making it affordable for most operators.
Additionally, the new rules allow LCOs to operate throughout the entire territory of India, eliminating the previous restrictions that limited their operational areas. This change opens up new opportunities for LCOs to expand their services and reach a broader audience. Furthermore, if an LCO’s application for registration or renewal is denied, they now have the right to appeal the decision within 30 days. This provision ensures that operators have a fair chance to contest any unfavorable decisions made by the registering authority.
Existing Registrations and Future Applications
For LCOs with existing registrations, the new rules will not affect their current licenses. These registrations will remain valid for the duration specified in the registration certificate. However, if an existing registration is set to expire in less than 90 days, operators are encouraged to apply for renewal immediately through the new online portal.
It is important to note that any pending applications submitted to post offices for registration or renewal must be withdrawn. LCOs will need to reapply using the Broadcast Seva Portal to ensure their applications are processed under the new system. This requirement aims to centralize the registration process and eliminate any confusion that may arise from the transition.
