Spotify Launches Global Lyric Translations and Offline Lyrics for Select Users

Spotify has unveiled significant updates to its Lyrics feature, enhancing the way users interact with song lyrics while enjoying their favorite tracks. This marks the most substantial change to the feature since its introduction five years ago. The updates include expanded translation options, offline access for Premium users, and a more user-friendly display of lyrics during playback.

Global Expansion of Lyric Translations

The first major update from Spotify broadens the availability of lyric translations to users worldwide. After conducting tests in over 25 markets, Spotify has now made it possible for listeners to read song lyrics in their preferred language, even if the original track is performed in a different language. This enhancement allows users to better comprehend songs from artists whose languages they may not speak. Previously, many listeners relied on third-party applications for translations, but this update integrates the feature directly into the Spotify platform.

Spotify initiated testing of lyric translations shortly after Apple Music introduced a similar feature in September 2025. Initially, access was limited to select regions during early trials, including a test associated with the release of Rosalía’s album, “Lux.” With this latest rollout, Spotify has eliminated those geographical restrictions, making lyric translations accessible to a global audience.

Offline Access for Premium Subscribers

The second update introduces offline access to lyrics for Spotify Premium subscribers. Users can now view song lyrics even when they are not connected to the internet. This feature is particularly beneficial for those traveling, commuting, or flying, as long as the track is available offline. Previously, accessing lyrics required an active data connection, which restricted their usability in various situations. This enhancement allows users to enjoy their music fully, regardless of their connectivity status.

Improved Visibility of Lyrics During Playback

The third update involves a significant change in the display of lyrics within the app. Spotify has relocated the Lyrics option from a separate tab below the playback bar to a more prominent position on the playback screen. When users access the Now Playing view, they will now see the lyrics directly on the screen. The lyrics will continue to scroll in sync with the song during playback, providing a seamless listening experience.

With these updates, Spotify aims to enhance the overall utility and accessibility of its Lyrics feature. Users have long expressed a desire for improvements, and this rollout reflects the company’s commitment to meeting listener expectations and closing existing gaps in the lyrics experience.
