South Korean Researchers Unveil Wearable ‘Iron Man’ Exoskeleton Suit for Paraplegics

The WalkON Suit F1 follows earlier models, including the WalkON Suit 1, introduced in 2016, and the WalkON Suit 4, released in 2020. Each iteration has improved upon the last, addressing various challenges faced by users.

Innovative Design and Functionality

The WalkON Suit F1 introduces several significant improvements over its predecessors. One of the most notable advancements is the frontal docking mechanism, which allows users to wear the suit while seated in a wheelchair. Earlier models required assistance to put on the suit, which posed a challenge for many users. Additionally, the WalkON Suit F1 can walk like a humanoid robot, autonomously approaching users. Users can walk at a speed of 3.2 km/h while keeping both hands free, a significant improvement over older versions that restricted hand movement. The WalkON Suit F1 is also designed to navigate obstacles, including narrow passages, doors, and stairs. Constructed from lightweight materials such as aluminum and titanium, the suit weighs approximately 50 kg, making it manageable for users.
