SMOPS 2026: Innovating Space Mission Operations in Bangalore
The International Conference on Spacecraft Mission Operations (SMOPS-2026) kicked off on April 8 in Bangalore, India, bringing together experts and enthusiasts under the theme “Innovative Operations for Smart and Sustainable Space Mission Management – Next Generation.” Organized by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the Astronautical Society of India (ASI), and the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), this year’s conference is set to explore a wide range of topics related to mission operations management.
Running until April 10, the event covers critical areas such as advanced mission design, automation, and the management of large constellations. It also delves into human spaceflight missions, space robotics, cybersecurity in space systems, and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping the future of space operations. A dedicated workshop for students and young professionals concluded the event on a high note.
The conference was inaugurated by former ISRO Chairman and Secretary of the Department of Space, Shri A S Kiran Kumar, alongside notable figures like Dr. V. Narayanan, current ISRO Chairman, and Dr. Jean Michel Contant, Secretary General of the IAA.
