Shankh Airlines Set to Launch Operations in January, According to Chairman with Unique Background
Shankh Airlines is set to launch its flight operations in January, aiming to connect Lucknow with major cities like Delhi and Mumbai. The airline will start with a fleet of three Airbus aircraft and plans to expand its services across Uttar Pradesh. Chairman Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma envisions making air travel more accessible for middle-class passengers and first-time flyers, challenging the notion that flying is a luxury. With aspirations for international flights by 2028 or 2029, Shankh Airlines represents a significant step in the evolving aviation landscape.
Initial Operations and Fleet Expansion
Shankh Airlines plans to commence its operations in the first half of January with an initial fleet of three Airbus aircraft. The airline will focus on connecting Lucknow to major metropolitan areas, including Delhi and Mumbai. According to Chairman Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma, the airline will also serve various destinations throughout Uttar Pradesh during its initial phase. He mentioned that the fleet is expected to grow, with two additional aircraft anticipated to join within the next month and a half. As the airline expands, Vishwakarma expressed a vision of covering the entire country, with international operations projected for 2028 or 2029.
Vision for Accessible Air Travel
Vishwakarma emphasized that Shankh Airlines aims to make air travel accessible to middle-class individuals and first-time flyers. He believes that flying should not be viewed as a luxury but rather as a common mode of transportation, akin to buses or tempos. The airline’s mission is to change the perception surrounding air travel, making it more inclusive. Reflecting on his journey, Vishwakarma shared that the idea of entering the aviation sector emerged about four years ago. He dedicated time to understanding the necessary processes, regulations, and requirements to establish an airline. What began as a mere idea has now evolved into a tangible venture.
Background and Entrepreneurial Journey
Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma comes from a modest middle-class background, where dreaming big was often seen as unrealistic. He recalled that in his upbringing, simply earning a livelihood was considered sufficient, and aspirations beyond that were rare. Despite limited formal education and a lack of interest in academics, Vishwakarma’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to explore various small businesses, many of which faced challenges. His business journey gained momentum in 2014 when he entered the cement trade, followed by ventures in TMT steel, mining, and transport. Today, he oversees a fleet of over 400 trucks, describing his growth as gradual and organic, evolving without grand planning.
Funding and Future Aspirations
Vishwakarma highlighted that aviation is one of the fastest-growing sectors, primarily due to its strong cash flow. He noted that the industry operates without a credit system, which can lead to the downfall of many businesses reliant on credit. Shankh Airlines has secured funding through its parent company, with aircraft acquired on lease and financed by external entities. Vishwakarma stated that the airline is not focused on competing for market shares but rather on self-improvement. Regarding ticket pricing, he assured that fares would remain stable during festival seasons, although business-class tickets may be priced higher than those of competitors. Additionally, he expressed a commitment to creating job opportunities for the youth, encouraging them to pursue their dreams without fear of judgment.
