Sashastra Seema Bal Unveils Advanced Surveillance Technologies

In a significant step towards modernization, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has secured a range of cutting-edge equipment aimed at enhancing its surveillance capabilities. This includes Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Micro UAVs, Hand Held Thermal Imagers, a CCTV Surveillance Setup equipped with Automatic Face Recognition and Number Plate Recognition, as well as satellite phones.

These advancements are part of a broader initiative, the Central Sector Scheme, which focuses on the Modernization Plan for all Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), including the SSB. The program’s primary goal is to boost operational efficiency by integrating the latest technology in weaponry, communication, protective gear, surveillance, and border security systems.

Investment in Modernization

Over the past ten years, from 2015-16 to 2025-26, the SSB has been allocated Rs. 5001.63 crore for modernization and infrastructure development. Out of this budget, Rs. 4775.11 crore has already been utilized, with further spending expected as the current financial year concludes on March 31, 2026.

Since the initiation of the Modernization Plan, the SSB has received Rs. 241.15 crore, with Rs. 210.02 crore spent on procuring state-of-the-art equipment, significantly enhancing its capabilities in various domains.

Human Resource Development

The SSB recognizes that human resource needs are ever-evolving, and as such, there are no rigid targets set for recruitment. The organization assesses its staffing requirements dynamically, ensuring that necessary resources are available. To bolster its workforce, the SSB conducts timely Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) to fill vacancies through promotion, in addition to employing various recruitment methods to fill direct posts and non-GD cadres.

Training to Enhance Skills

Training programs tailored to the Force’s needs are paramount and are frequently updated to incorporate the latest technologies. The SSB has proactively participated in advanced training sessions, including Drone Pilot Training at the Drone Destination in Gurugram, Special Communication Equipment Training with the Border Security Force, and a Yoga Training program at the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga in New Delhi. These initiatives aim to enhance the operational capacity of the Force.
