Sarbananda Sonowal Commends Bravery, Discipline, and Cultural Legacy of Moran Community

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, praised the Moran community for their bravery, discipline, and rich cultural heritage during the 57th Foundation Day celebrations of the All Moran Studentsโ€™ Union in Doomdooma. He emphasized the community’s significant contributions to Assam and their recognition across India. The Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to preserving the Moran heritage while promoting their overall development.

Celebrating Cultural Heritage

During the event, Shri Sonowal inaugurated two major cultural events, โ€˜Gos Tolor Bihuโ€™ and โ€˜Kheri,โ€™ which featured performances by over 1,000 participants. He commended the All Moran Studentsโ€™ Union for its nearly six-decade-long dedication to addressing community issues and enhancing the Assamese identity. The Union Minister noted the immense talent and resolve of the youth within the Moran community, urging the need to equip them with modern knowledge and technological skills to thrive in a competitive environment.

Contributions to Assamese Identity

Shri Sonowal acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Moran community to Assam’s public life. He stated that their sacrifices, bravery, and work ethic symbolize national pride. The Minister reiterated that since the BJP government took office, there has been a strong focus on protecting and promoting the Moran cultural legacy while ensuring comprehensive development for the community. He emphasized the importance of fostering modern perspectives and scientific thinking among the youth to help them succeed.

Honoring Historical Figures

In his address, Shri Sonowal paid tribute to historical figures such as Bodoucha and the warrior Veer Raghav Moran, recognizing them as ideals of Assamese public life. He highlighted the spiritual significance of the โ€˜Dharma Huchariโ€™ and โ€˜Gos Tolor Bihu,โ€™ noting the community’s commitment to preserving its rich traditions. The Minister expressed optimism that the Moran community would continue to bring glory to Assam and India through their industrious spirit, particularly emphasizing the ecological importance of ‘Gos Tolor Bihu’ in promoting nature conservation.

Call for Active Participation

The Dibrugarh Lok Sabha MP encouraged the Moran community to actively participate in building a self-reliant and developed India. He praised the leadership of the student union for empowering youth and strengthening societal bonds. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including MLAs Bolin Chetia and Ponakan Baruah, as well as leaders from various community organizations, all of whom contributed to the celebration of the Moran community’s heritage and achievements.
