SAFE DRINKING WATER PROVIDED IN ALL ARSENIC AND FLUORIDE AFFECTED HABITATIONS UNDER JAL JEEVAN MISSION

The Government of India has been implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal, since August 2019, in cooperation with States, to provide potable tap water in adequate quantity, in prescribed quality and on a regular and long-term basis for every rural household.

At the time of the announcement of Jal Jeevan’s mission, it was reported that the rural households of 3.23 crore had tap water connections. As reported by States/UT, more than 9.33 crore of additional rural households have been provided with tap water hookups under JJM. Therefore, as of 14/07/2023, out of 19.46 crore rural households in the country, more than 12.57 crore (64.61%) are said to have tap water in their homes. The state detail of the rural houses equipped with a water connection is attached. The state/UT, district, and village status of tap water connection in rural households, as reported by the states/UT, is also public knowledge and available on the JJM Dashboard at:

14,020 arsenic-affected homes and 7,996 fluoride-affected homes were reported by states/UT as per 1st August 2019. As reported by States/UT to date, safe drinking water has been made available in all of these homes.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel in a written response to Lok Sabha today.
