Record Participation in Project Veer Gatha 5.0 During Republic Day Celebrations
Project Veer Gatha 5.0, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education, has witnessed an exceptional turnout this year, coinciding with the Republic Day celebrations. Approximately 1.92 crore students from nearly 1.90 lakh schools participated in the initiative, marking the highest participation since its inception in 2021. A total of 100 winners have been selected nationally, with categories representing various educational stages.
Engaging Features and Historical Themes
Launched on September 8, 2025, this year’s Veer Gatha introduced innovative elements aimed at enhancing student engagement. For the first time, the program allowed students to express themselves through short-video formats, including videography, anchoring, reporting, and storytelling. Participants were encouraged to create content focusing on Samarik Parampara, which encompasses India’s rich military heritage, strategies, and legendary figures.
Students were inspired to delve into the remarkable journeys and military tactics of historical icons such as King Kharavela of Kalinga, Prithviraj Chauhan, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and the heroes of the 1857 uprising, fostering a deeper understanding of India’s cultural legacy.
International Participation Marks a Milestone
In a significant expansion, schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) abroad also participated for the first time. A total of 28,005 students from 91 schools across 18 countries submitted their entries, underscoring the initiative’s aim to share India’s stories of courage and pride with a global audience.
The initiative involved local school activities and nationwide interaction programs facilitated by Gallantry awardees, delivered both offline and online. Following school-level activities that concluded on November 10, 2025, around 4,020 entries advanced to the national-level evaluation, from which the top 100 entries have been recognized as SUPER-100 winners. These distinguished winners will be honored in New Delhi by both ministries, receiving a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and an invitation to attend the Republic Day Parade 2026 at Kartavya Path.
Acknowledging State and District Level Contributions
In addition to the national winners, the project will also recognize eight winners at the State/UT level and four winners at the district level across various categories. Since its launch in 2021, Project Veer Gatha has steadily evolved from its initial editions, where 25 national winners were recognized each year, growing from around 8 lakh participants in the first edition to almost 1.92 crore this year.
This project has not only celebrated the bravery and sacrifices of Gallantry awardees but has also instilled a sense of patriotism and civic responsibility among students. With each edition, Project Veer Gatha has successfully expanded its reach, inspiring students across the nation and in Indian schools abroad.
