Ration card to migrant labourers

OV Digital Desk

The Department of Labor and Employment compared eShram recipient data with National Food Security Act (NFSA) ration card data available from the Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD). On matching the two datasets, it was observed that as of 22 February 2023, out of total 28.59 crore of eShram registrants, around 20.63 crore of eShram registrants are registered in DFPD’s NFSA database and around 7.96 crore of eShram registrants are not registered in the NFSA database.

The Honorable Supreme Court’s order dated April 20, 2023 gave three months to affected States/UTs to undertake the ration card issuance exercise to excluded registrants on the eShram portal.

The Department of Labor and Employment is sharing eShram data with all state/UT labor departments through the Data Sharing Portal (DSP) and/or Application Programming Interface (API). In addition, the Department has required all States/UTs to provide the benefits of various welfare schemes to targeted excluded eShram-eligible enrollees, including ration cards. All States/UTs signed up for the data sharing portal and were given access to the eShram database.

This information was given by Union Minister of State for Labor and Employment Shri. Rameshwar Teli in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today.
