Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana Set for China Release Under a Fresh Title
Ranbir Kapoor’s much-anticipated film “Ramayana” is set to make its international debut in China, where it will be released under a different title. Nearly ten years after Nitesh Tiwari’s “Dangal” captivated Chinese audiences, “Ramayana” aims to tap into the world’s second-largest theatrical market. The film’s release is generating excitement as it prepares to reach a broader audience.
Title and Distribution in China
Social media discussions suggest that the film will be titled “The Legend of Prince” for its Chinese release. Sony Pictures is expected to handle the distribution of the film in China. The makers are also planning promotional activities to engage audiences ahead of the film’s release.
Director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra are reportedly considering a promotional campaign that may include a press event and a screening at the Pingyao International Film Festival on September 24. Following this, they plan a multi-city promotional tour during China’s Golden Week, which begins on October 1.
Release Dates and Strategy
“Ramayana: Part 1” is slated for an international release on November 6, with its Indian theatrical debut set for November 8, coinciding with the Diwali festivities. Namit Malhotra explained the reasoning behind the staggered release dates, stating, “We are releasing internationally (on November 6) because the international distribution works from a Friday standpoint, which is the 6th of November. But (in) India, currently, we are targeting the Diwali release.”
The film has already garnered significant attention, although the trailer has received mixed reactions. Some viewers have praised its grand scale and action sequences, while others have raised concerns about the quality of its CGI. In response to criticism regarding the visuals, Ranbir Kapoor found it “slightly funny” to see the rise of “CG critics” online, emphasizing the extensive effort put in by the artists and the team behind the film.
Cast and Future Plans
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, “Ramayana” is envisioned as a two-part adaptation of Valmiki’s epic. Ranbir Kapoor stars as Lord Rama, with Yash portraying Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita. The ensemble cast also features Sunny Deol, Ravie Dubey, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, and Kunal Kapoor. The second part of the film is scheduled for release during Diwali 2027.
