Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated film, “Ramayana,” continues to create excitement ahead of its release. The epic project has recently secured a significant partnership for its theatrical rollout, with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions stepping in to handle distribution in the Indian market. This collaboration adds another prominent name to the ambitious film, which is already generating considerable buzz.
Exclusive Footage Impresses Distributors
According to a report by Variety India, producer Namit Malhotra showcased nearly 30 minutes of exclusive footage from “Ramayana” to several leading distribution companies while seeking potential partners. The preview reportedly received an enthusiastic response, leading Dharma Productions to express keen interest in associating with the project after being impressed by what they saw.
Initial discussions between the filmmakers and Dharma Productions began with a valuation of around Rs. 500 crore. However, both parties eventually settled on a deal worth approximately Rs. 250 crore. With Dharma now on board for domestic distribution, the studio is expected to implement an extensive release strategy, ensuring that “Ramayana” reaches audiences across the country on a grand scale.
Star-Studded Cast and Global Ambitions
“Ramayana” is envisioned as a two-part cinematic saga featuring a stellar cast. Ranbir Kapoor will portray Lord Ram, while Sai Pallavi takes on the role of Sita and Yash plays Ravana. The first installment is set to hit cinemas during Diwali 2026, with the second part expected to follow in 2027.
On the international front, Warner Bros. is anticipated to distribute the film in overseas territories. The makers have already unveiled the film’s first official asset in the United States, signaling their intent to introduce this ambitious Indian epic to global audiences.
A Musical Collaboration of Legends
The project boasts an impressive ensemble cast portraying iconic characters from the epic. Sunny Deol will play Lord Hanuman, while Ravie Dubey is cast as Laxman. Other notable actors include Adinath Kothare as Bharath, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Arun Govil as Dashrath, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara, and Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra, among others.
Adding to the film’s grandeur is its music, which features a collaboration between two globally celebrated composers—Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.
