Raj Kumar Goyal Takes Office as Chief Information Commissioner

Shri Raj Kumar Goyal has officially assumed the role of Chief Information Commissioner at the Central Information Commission as of December 15, 2025. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by two current Information Commissioners, Smt. Anandi Ramalingam and Shri Vinod Kumar Tiwari, who also administered the oath of office to eight newly appointed Information Commissioners. This event took place at the Central Information Commission on the same date.

Introducing the New Information Commissioners

The eight new Information Commissioners bring a wealth of experience and diverse backgrounds to their roles:

Shri Surendra Singh Meena is a 1993 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Jharkhand cadre. He previously served as Director General at the Shri Krishna Institute of Public Administration in Jharkhand. With a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Metallurgy, he has extensive experience in policymaking and implementation, focusing on marginalized communities.

Shri Ashutosh Chaturvedi is a distinguished journalist with 35 years of experience in both print and electronic media. He has held the position of Editor-in-Chief at **Prabhat Khabar** in Ranchi and has also worked with leading organizations such as the BBC World Service and **Amar Ujala**. He holds a Master of Science in Chemistry.

Shri Swagat Das, an Indian Police Service officer from the 1987 Chhattisgarh cadre, retired as Secretary (Security) at the Cabinet Secretariat. With over 37 years in law enforcement and crisis management, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and has significant experience within the Intelligence Bureau.

Ms. Sudha Rani Relangi is an Indian Legal Service officer and former Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Law and Justice. She has served as Legislative Counsel and Director of Prosecution with the CBI. Holding a Master of Law degree and being a research scholar, she possesses extensive expertise in legislative drafting, including the Right to Information Act of 2005.

Shri P. R. Ramesh has significant experience in journalism, serving as Managing Editor of **Open Magazine** in Delhi. He has contributed to various media outlets, including the **Economic Times**, where he provided political analysis. He holds a Master of Arts degree in English.

Shri Khushwant Singh Sethi is an accomplished Indian Forest Service officer from the 1990 Tripura cadre, recently serving as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests. With over 34 years in forestry and conservation, he holds a Master of Science and has expertise in policy formulation related to biodiversity and wildlife conservation.

Ms. Jaya Varma Sinha brings considerable experience from the Indian Railway Management Service as Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board. Over 36 years, she has developed expertise in administrative and financial matters within the Ministry of Railways, holding a Master of Arts in Psychology.

Shri Sanjeev Kumar Jindal, representing the Central Secretariat Service, retired as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs. With a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA in Finance, he has accumulated over 35 years of experience across multiple sectors, including disaster management and public distribution.
