Prime Minister’s participation in the 15th BRICS Summit

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi attends the 15th BRICS summit held under the presidency of South Africa, in Johannesburg on August 23, 2023.

Leaders held productive discussions, including on global economic recovery, partnership with Africa and the Global South, and reviewed progress so far on the BRICS agenda.

During his speech, the Prime Minister called for a strengthening of the BRICS which will be:

B – Break the barriers
R – Revitalize economies
I – Inspire innovation
C – Create opportunities
S – Shaping the future

In his various speeches, the Prime Minister underlined the following:

● Called for firm deadlines for reforms of the United Nations Security Council
● Called for the reform of multilateral financial institutions
● Called for WTO reform
● Urged the BRICS to build consensus on their expansion
● Urged the BRICS to send a global message of unity and not polarization
● Proposal for the creation of a BRICS space exploration consortium
● Offering India’s Digital Public Infrastructure: India Stack to BRICS Partners
● Proposal to undertake skills mapping, training and promotion of mobility between BRICS countries
● Proposals for joint efforts of BRICS countries for the protection of big cats under the International Big Cat Alliance
● Proposal to establish an archive of traditional medicine among the BRICS countries
● Invited BRICS partners to support the AU’s permanent membership in the G20
