Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was received by the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi at the Al-Ittihadiya Palace on 25 June 2023.

The two leaders warmly recalled President Sisi’s state visit as the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations in January 2023 and welcomed the momentum he brought to bilateral relations. They agreed that the new “Indian Unity” in the Egyptian cabinet was a useful tool for guiding bilateral collaborations.

Leaders discussed ways to further deepen the partnership between the two countries, especially in areas such as trade and investment, information technology, defense and security, renewable energy, agriculture, health, the culture and the bonds between people.

The Prime Minister and President Sisi also discussed further cooperation in the G-20, highlighting the issues of food and energy insecurity, climate change and the need for the Global South to have a concerted voice. The prime minister was looking forward to welcoming President Sisi to New Delhi in September 2023 for the G20 leaders’ summit.

The two leaders signed an agreement to upgrade the bilateral relationship to a “Strategic Partnership”. Three memoranda of understanding were also signed in the fields of agriculture, archeology and antiquities and competition law.

Present were the Prime Minister of Egypt, HE Mostafa Madbouly and a number of other senior Cabinet Ministers. On the Indian side, EAM, NSA and senior officials were present.
