PRESIDENT OF INDIA GRACES THE GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND

The President of India, Smt Draupadi Murmu honored and spoke at the Golden Jubilee celebration of the National Federation of the Blind today (August 3, 2023) in New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, the The president said so providing a decent life for people with disabilities is the responsibility of the whole society. We must ensure that they receive adequate education, job opportunities, accessible public places and a better and safer life.

THE President urged blind people to believe in their own abilities. He said that in Indian culture disability has never been considered an obstacle to acquiring knowledge and achieving excellence. He cited examples from Rishi Ashtavakra and the great poet Surdas and stated that “intuition is more important than sight”.

The President appreciated the National Federation of the Blind for the game important role in improving the lives of visually impaired people over the past 50 years. He noticed that the The Federation has raised awareness of the challenges faced by visually impaired people in society, thus making society more inclusive.

THE the president said that the government is making continuous efforts for the empowerment of people with disabilities through various initiatives. He expressed confidence that the National Federation of the Blind will continue its efforts in cooperation with government and society to achieve the goal of general development and empowerment of visually impaired people.
