PORT CALL OF INS SAHYADRI AND INS KOLKATA TO PORT MORESBY, PAPUA NEW GUINEA

Indian naval vessels Sahyadri and Kolkata, mission deployed to Eastern IOR, arrived at Port Moresby on Aug. 23, to enhance maritime partnership and cooperation with Papua New Guinea.

While in port, the crew of the two ships will engage with PNG Defense Forces personnel in a wide range of activities including professional interactions, cultural exchanges, yoga sessions and ship visits. The port of call is intended to strengthen ties between India and Papua New Guinea in the maritime sector.

INS Sahyadri is the third vessel of the in-house designed and built Project-17-class multi-purpose stealth frigates and is commanded by Captain Rajan Kapoor. INS Kolkata is the first ship of the in-house designed and built Project-15A class destroyers and is commanded by Captain Sharad Sinsunwal. Both vessels were built at Mazagon Dock Ltd, Mumbai and are armed with an array of modern weapons and sensors capable of dealing with threats in all three dimensions.
