Piyush Goyal Unveils SEEPZ Phase 2, Calls for Enhanced Skilling Initiatives
In a significant move to bolster India’s industrial landscape, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurated the New Enterprises & Services Tower – Phase 2 (NEST–02) at the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) in Mumbai today. During the inauguration, Goyal emphasized the necessity for industries to ramp up their skilling initiatives to cater to the future workforce demands of India.
Speaking at the event, the Minister highlighted the impressive growth trajectory achieved under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, urging that SEEPZ must strive to match this pace. He firmly stated that the operations and performance of the SEEPZ must align with the wider national economic momentum.
Enhancing Training for a Bright Future
Goyal called upon the units within SEEPZ to broaden their training efforts, specifically advocating for programs aimed at supporting specially-abled youth. He asserted that skilling is fundamental to the growth and prosperity of the nation, further urging the industry to take up greater accountability in nurturing workforce development and contributing to the national skilling agenda.
Commitment to Transparency and Accountability
Addressing governance principles, Goyal underscored the crucial role of transparency, integrity, and accountability in the Government’s operations under Prime Minister Modi. He urged business leaders and unit holders to collaborate closely with the administration to ensure SEEPZ functions with utmost transparency and accountability. The Minister stressed that maintaining such an environment is a collective duty that cannot be overlooked.
Maximizing Export Potential and Infrastructure Development
Goyal pointed out the importance of auction-based allotments and transparent procedures to prevent any misuse of space within SEEPZ. He invited stakeholders to collectively assess unused plots and work with the management to enhance export capabilities. Moreover, he reviewed ongoing and upcoming infrastructure upgrades, which include better internal roads and improved green spaces, noting that SEEPZ should reflect the modern standards of India.
Building Trust and Future Readiness
Highlighting the government’s reform initiatives—such as the Jan Vishwas Bills and the decriminalization efforts—Goyal reiterated that these changes are grounded in fostering trust between the Government and industry. He urged business units to maintain this trust through compliance with transparent and ethical practices.
Advancing Towards Atmanirbhar Bharat
Concluding his remarks, Goyal emphasized the shared vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, advocating for collaboration between the industry and Government to strengthen domestic capabilities. He encouraged the adoption of modern systems, innovative planning, and high-quality processes to prepare for future prospects that align with India’s 2047 aspirations.
Goyal’s call to action is for SEEPZ to evolve into a leading production and export hub that reflects the ambitious pace of India’s economic transformation, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fostering industry-led growth, innovation, and competitiveness.
