NTH Collaborates with NHAI to Enhance Highway Quality Testing

The National Test House (NTH) has partnered with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in a significant move to bolster quality control and third-party testing for national highway projects. This collaborative effort was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the NHAI headquarters in New Delhi, aiming to improve safety and standards in infrastructure development.

Strengthening Testing Protocols

The MoU was executed in the presence of notable officials, including Shri Bharat Khera, Additional Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav, Chairman of NHAI, and Dr. Alok Kumar Srivastava, Director General of NTH. This strategic alliance positions NTH as a recognized laboratory for NHAI, enabling the authority to send samples related to highway construction to NTH’s regional laboratories and satellite centers scattered across India.

Comprehensive Testing Facilities

With facilities located in cities such as Ghaziabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Jaipur, Guwahati, Bengaluru, and Varanasi, NTH will conduct thorough testing and inspection of materials. The results will be made available through both an online Management Information System (MIS) portal and physical reports, ensuring prompt access to essential data.

Enhanced Accessibility and Coordination

The agreement emphasizes several key features, including online submission of test requests and payments, as well as the designation of nodal officers for streamlined coordination. NTH experts will actively participate in technical committees of NHAI, further supporting the infrastructure projects with their expertise.

Training and Capacity Building

As part of this collaboration, both organizations will conduct joint training programs and workshops aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of NHAI officials. Furthermore, NTH is committed to aiding the enhancement of testing facilities within NHAI laboratories wherever necessary, contributing to a more rigorous quality assurance framework.

A Legacy of Quality Assurance

Founded in 1912, the National Test House operates under the Department of Consumer Affairs within the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. With a strong reputation as a leading entity in scientific testing and quality assurance, NTH is poised to significantly impact the infrastructure landscape of India. This partnership aims to foster transparency, standardization, and efficiency in quality assurance, ultimately enhancing the safety, durability, and performance of national highways.

This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision for robust, reliable, and world-class infrastructure, marking an important step forward in the nation’s development agenda.
