NITI Aayog and UNICEF Join Forces for Nutrition in India

In a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing nutrition and health outcomes across India, NITI Aayog and UNICEF India have officially signed a Statement of Intent (SOI). This collaboration will target strategic interventions in Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks, with the objective of improving maternal and child nutrition in underserved regions. The agreement was executed by Shri Rohit Kumar, Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme at NITI Aayog, and Mr. Arjan de Wagt, Deputy Representative of UNICEF India.

Enhancing Collaboration for Better Health Outcomes

The partnership between NITI Aayog and UNICEF is designed to capitalize on the strengths of both institutions, focusing on fostering multi-stakeholder engagement and reinforcing implementation systems for critical health and nutrition strategies at the block level. This initiative aligns with NITI Aayog’s commitment to leveraging data-driven governance and collaborative approaches to drive developmental progress.

Strengthening Local Efforts for Nutrition

Shri Rohit Kumar emphasized the success of the Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme, which has highlighted the need for convergence and collaboration among various stakeholders. He pointed out that partnerships with organizations like UNICEF India will enhance efforts to overcome significant health and nutrition challenges, ultimately ensuring better service delivery in high-priority areas.

Targeted Support through IMPAct4Nutrition

UNICEF India will utilize its IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N) platform to bring technical expertise to this collaboration and facilitate partnerships with businesses, public sector enterprises, and industry associations. This support aims to direct corporate social responsibility (CSR) investments into nutrition-focused programs that will strengthen Anganwadi infrastructure, improve nutrition literacy, and enhance the uptake of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).

Strategic Activities for Community Engagement

Key activities under this collaboration will include mobilizing CSR partners for health and nutrition interventions, championing community involvement, and providing platforms for knowledge sharing. These steps are crucial for identifying and spreading best practices that can be replicated across Aspirational Districts and Blocks.

A Shared Commitment for Progress

The signing of the Statement of Intent marks a significant step in the mutual commitment between NITI Aayog and UNICEF India to advancing nutrition and health outcomes. Through strengthened partnerships, evidence-based strategies, and coordinated actions, both organizations aim to address pressing challenges in the health and nutrition sector, involve the private sector, and engage community stakeholders for a healthier future.
