NIT Trichy to Host Global Alumni Meet 2025

The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy), is set to host its Global Alumni Meet (GAM) 2025 in Chennai on January 4, 2025. This significant event is organized by RECAL, the official alumni association of the institute. The meet aims to bring together alumni from around the world to celebrate the legacy of NIT Trichy. The last GAM took place in 2020, making this upcoming event a highly anticipated reunion for the institute’s vast network of graduates.

Celebrating a Legacy of Excellence

NIT Trichy boasts a dynamic alumni network of over 48,000 individuals, including more than 930 CEOs and 1,300 founders. This impressive roster highlights the institute’s role as a powerhouse of talent and innovation. The Global Alumni Meet 2025 will feature a distinguished lineup of speakers and guests. Notable attendees include Mr. N. Chandrasekaran, Chairperson of the Tata Group, who will serve as the Chief Guest. Dr. Palanivel Thiagarajan, the Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services in Tamil Nadu, will be the Guest of Honour.

Additionally, Mr. Gopi Kallayil, Chief Business Strategist for AI at Google, will deliver the keynote address. Other esteemed guests include Dr. P. Veeramuthuvel, Project Director of Chandrayaan 3, and T.V. Narendran, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Steel. These leaders will come together to celebrate shared achievements, inspire collaborations, and forge impactful connections among alumni. The event promises to be a platform for networking and fostering relationships that can lead to future opportunities.

Launching the Research and Innovation Hub

At GAM 2025, NIT Trichy will unveil its ambitious plan for a 20-acre Research and Innovation Hub. This initiative marks a significant step in the institute’s mission to promote entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary research. The hub will focus on emerging fields such as AgriTech, FinTech, SpaceTech, GreenTech, Quantum Computing, and AI/ML.

The estimated investment for this project is โ‚น150 crore, aimed at accelerating innovation in Tier-II cities. The Research and Innovation Hub will serve as a formal platform for mentorship, industry-led projects, and a thriving startup ecosystem. Dr. G. Aghila, the Director of NIT Trichy, emphasized that this hub will enhance collaboration between students and alumni, fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. The initiative reflects the institute’s commitment to nurturing talent and driving research that can lead to significant advancements in various fields.

Empowering Students and Enhancing Alumni Engagement

NIT Trichy is dedicated to empowering its students through various initiatives. Programs like the Adopt-a-Student initiative, travel grants, and endowment funds are designed to support deserving students. Additionally, alumni-driven programs such as Rockfort Ventures, SCIENT Labs, and the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Development Initiatives (CEDI) showcase the institute’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial talent.

Plans to introduce Chair Professorships and enhance global research collaborations further demonstrate NIT Trichy’s dedication to academic excellence. Dr. Aghila noted that the Research and Innovation Hub will provide a structured environment for mentorship and collaboration. Mr. K. Mahalingam, President of RECAL, highlighted the importance of the alumni network as a reservoir of mentorship, funding, and innovation.
