Nintendo Switch 2 Gains Xbox Support Ahead of Launch

Nintendo has officially unveiled the highly anticipated Switch 2 during a recent Direct showcase, revealing exciting details about the console and its upcoming game lineup for 2025. Among the first-party titles announced are fan favorites like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. In a significant development, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, has expressed his commitment to supporting the new console with Xbox games, aiming to expand their reach to new audiences.
Phil Spencer Discusses Support for Switch 2
In a recent interview with Variety, Phil Spencer elaborated on Microsoft’s strategy regarding the Nintendo Switch 2. He emphasized the console’s potential to connect with players who may not engage with Xbox or PC gaming. โWeโve been supporting Switch 1, and I want to support Switch 2. Nintendo has been a great partner,โ Spencer stated. He believes that collaborating with Nintendo allows Microsoft to grow its community and invest in its franchises effectively.
Spencer’s enthusiasm for Nintendo’s role in the gaming industry is evident. He highlighted the importance of mutual support between the two companies, stating, โGetting the support from them for our franchises is an important part of our future.โ This partnership could pave the way for a broader gaming experience for players across different platforms.
Potential Xbox Titles for Nintendo Switch 2
While Microsoft did not announce specific titles for the Switch 2 during the Nintendo Direct presentation, speculation about upcoming Xbox games for the console is already circulating. Industry insider NateTheHate previously suggested that popular Xbox exclusives, including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection, could be making their way to the Switch 2 and PS5 in 2025.
A report from Windows Central also indicated that Microsoft plans to enhance its multiplatform strategy, potentially launching more games on both Sony and Nintendo platforms. Titles such as Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Age of Mythology: Retold, and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition are rumored to be on the list for release on the Switch 2 this year. However, Microsoft has yet to confirm any specific titles for the new console.
Historically, Microsoft has shown support for Nintendo’s platforms. Last year, the company shifted its strategy by releasing four titlesโPentiment, Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, and Groundedโon both the Nintendo Switch and PS5. This move marked a significant change from their previous focus on Xbox and PC exclusives. Additionally, Microsoft is set to release Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on the PS5 soon after its initial launch on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
