Nintendo has officially launched the Nintendo Switch 2, marking its first new gaming platform in eight years. The Nintendo Switch 2 became available in select markets on June 5, generating excitement among fans who lined up at retail stores across Japan, the United States, and other regions. The console is offered in two packages: the standard version priced at $449.99 (approximately โน38,600) and a bundle that includes Mario Kart World for $499.99 (around โน42,900). While the Switch 2 is not officially available in India, enthusiasts can expect to find imported units through unofficial channels, albeit at a higher price point in the coming days.
Nintendo Switch 2 Specifications and Features
The Nintendo Switch 2 is designed to deliver superior performance and a wealth of new features compared to its predecessor. It operates on a custom Nvidia processor that efficiently manages both CPU and GPU tasks. Notably, the console supports Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology and ray tracing, enhancing the visual experience in games.
The device features a larger 7.9-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1920×1080, HDR10 support, and variable refresh rates of up to 120Hz, ensuring a smoother gaming experience. It comes with 256GB of internal UFS storage, with a portion allocated for system use. Users can expand storage capacity up to 2TB using microSD Express cards.
When docked to a compatible TV via HDMI, the Switch 2 can output video at resolutions up to 3840×2160 (4K) at 60 frames per second. It can also achieve 120 fps in TV mode at lower resolutions, such as 1920×1080 or 2560×1440.
Connectivity and Battery Life
The Nintendo Switch 2 is equipped with various connectivity options, including two USB Type-C ports for charging and docking, a game card slot, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD Express card slot. The dock features two USB 2.0 ports, an AC adapter port, an HDMI port, and a LAN port, enhancing its versatility.
The console supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth connectivity, and it includes stereo speakers and a built-in monaural microphone. The new Joy-Con 2 controllers come with advanced sensors, including an accelerometer and gyroscope, and support Bluetooth 3. They also feature HD rumble 2 and mouse functionality, along with a GameChat feature for in-game communication during online play.
The Switch 2 is powered by a 5,220mAh battery, which can last between two to 6.5 hours depending on the games being played. The console fully charges in three hours while in sleep mode. The Joy-Con 2 controllers have a 500mAh battery, lasting up to 20 hours and charging in approximately three and a half hours.
The dimensions of the Switch 2 are 4.5 x 10.7 x 0.55 inches, weighing around 535.2 grams with the Joy-Con controllers attached. The dock measures 4.5 x 7.9 x 2 inches and weighs 381 grams, while the Joy-Con 2 controllers measure 4.57 x 0.56 x 1.2 inches, weighing 65.2 grams for the left controller and 68 grams for the right. The console package also includes Joy-Con 2 straps and a grip for enhanced gameplay.
