NHAI Launches Major Ring Road Project to Boost Odisha Connectivity

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a significant step towards enhancing transportation in Odisha by issuing a Letter of Award (LOA) for the construction of the six-lane access-controlled Greenfield Capital Region Ring Road, also known as the Bhubaneswar Bypass Project. Encompassing a sprawling 111 kilometers from Rameshwar to Tangi, the project will be executed in three distinct packages under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) and is projected for completion within 30 months of initiation.

In the first package, M/s Patel Infrastructure Limited has been entrusted with the development of a 40-kilometer long six-lane stretch, which will feature paved shoulders stretching from Rameshwar to Bilipada. This segment will also boast an extensive array of additional facilities, including two interchanges, one Railway Over Bridge (ROB), 10 minor bridges, 142 culverts, one wayside amenity, seven elevated underpasses, and eight underpasses of various types.

Meanwhile, the second package has been awarded to M/s VRC Constructions (India) Limited, which will construct a 30-kilometer section between Bilipada and Gobindpur, also featuring six lanes and paved shoulders. This section will include three interchanges, 11 minor bridges, and 90 culverts, along with a 7.2-kilometer service road running alongside, one wayside amenity, and three elevated underpasses.

The third and final package has been secured by M/s HG Infra Engineering Limited. This includes a 40-kilometer stretch from Gobindpur to Tangi, near Bandola Toll Plaza, also featuring six lanes with paved shoulders. Among the features for this section are a 10-kilometer service/slip road, one interchange, 23 minor bridges, and 69 culverts, alongside additional infrastructure such as two elevated underpasses and multiple types of underpasses.

Designed with a speed limit of 100 km/h, the Capital Region Ring Road is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity, contributing to the reduction of congestion in bustling urban areas such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Khordha. This controlled-access corridor is not only set to facilitate smoother travel but also aims to lower logistics costs, generate substantial employment opportunities, and drive sustainable economic growth across the region.
