New PS5 Beta Update Enhances DualSense Controller Functionality

Sony is set to enhance the PlayStation 5 experience with a new system update that allows users to pair DualSense controllers across multiple devices. Currently available to beta participants, this update is expected to roll out to all users in the coming months. Additionally, Sony has announced a forthcoming Power Saver mode designed to optimize energy consumption while playing supported PS5 games, although this feature will be released at a later date.
PS5 System Update Available to Beta Users
The latest PS5 system update was unveiled on the PlayStation Blog and is currently accessible to beta testers in select regions, including the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany, and France. This update significantly enhances the functionality of DualSense wireless controllers and DualSense Edge controllers by allowing them to be paired with multiple devices simultaneously. Previously, users had to reconnect their controllers each time they switched from a PS5 to a PC, Mac, or mobile device.
With the new update, users can now connect their controllers to up to four devices at once. This means they can easily switch between devices without the hassle of re-pairing each time. The seamless transition between devices is expected to improve the overall user experience, making it more convenient for gamers who use their controllers across different platforms.
How to Pair to Multiple Devices
To take advantage of the new multi-device pairing feature, users must first disconnect any USB cables connected to their controllers. It’s essential to ensure that the light bar and player indicator on the controller are turned off; if they are not, users can press and hold the PS button to deactivate them.
To initiate pairing with multiple devices, users should press the PS button along with one of the four action buttonsโtriangle, circle, cross, or squareโon the controller for over five seconds. This action will cause the light bar and player indicator to flash twice, indicating that the controller is ready to pair. The choice of action button determines which of the four available slots will be used for pairing.
Once the controller is in pairing mode, users need to enable Bluetooth on the device they wish to connect to and add the controller as a new Bluetooth device. When successfully connected, the light bar will illuminate, and the player indicator will blink to show the corresponding slot number. Users can switch between paired devices by pressing the PS button and the relevant action button, even if the controller is turned off. This feature is expected to be available to all users worldwide in the coming months.
PS5 Power Saver Mode
In addition to the system update, Sony has announced a new Power Saver mode for the PS5, reflecting the company’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its devices. This feature will be integrated into the PS5 settings menu and will allow users to enable a Power Saver option that “scales back performance” on supported PS5 games. By activating this mode, players can expect a reduction in the console’s power consumption during gameplay.
While specific details about the Power Saver mode, including which games will be supported and the estimated energy savings, have yet to be disclosed, Sony has promised to provide more information as the launch date approaches. This initiative aligns with a growing trend among tech companies to promote sustainability and energy efficiency in their products.
