The event was marked by the presence of Dr. Samir V Kamat, the Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, who highlighted the center’s mission to bolster preparedness for potential radiological and nuclear emergencies.

State-of-the-Art Facilities for Enhanced Training

This newly established CBRN Centre of Excellence is designed to feature cutting-edge facilities. Among them are specialized radiological and nuclear test bed facilities as well as a heavy ion research facility, which will be instrumental for training and demonstration purposes. The center is also equipped with emergency medical response units and real-time field response units, aimed at rapidly mobilizing support during CBRN incidents.

Collaborative Efforts for Crisis Preparedness

The center is part of the upcoming CBRN Centre of Excellence under the Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS). Its primary objective is to provide effective training to emergency responders from various government bodies, including the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, and the National Disaster Management Authority, among others. The CBRN training will encompass workshops and practical sessions designed to prepare specialists for frontline responsibilities in crisis response.
