In a significant push for livestock awareness, Prof. S.P. The session saw participation from over 1.25 lakh livestock farmers across 28 States and Union Territories, connecting through more than 2,500 Common Service Centers (CSCs).

Minister Celebrates Livestock Farmers’ Contributions

During his address, Prof. Baghel praised the essential role of livestock farmers in bolstering the country’s economy. He noted that the animal husbandry and dairy sectors are not only vital components of rural development but also integral to realizing the Honorable Prime Minister’s vision for a developed India, or “Viksit Bharat.” Remarkably, India ranks first in global milk production, contributing 25 percent to the world’s total milk supply, a feat attributed to the dedicated efforts of farmers.

Government Initiatives Enhance Livestock Productivity

The Minister highlighted several government initiatives that have significantly uplifted livestock productivity. These include nationwide vaccination programs, the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, and the adoption of Sex-Sorted Semen (SSS). He emphasized the necessity of animal insurance and the importance of timely vaccinations to maintain animal health and promote sustainable growth in the sector.

Focus on Disease Control and Ethno Veterinary Medicine

Shri Naresh Pal Gangwar, Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), further elaborated on the importance of controlling zoonotic diseases, which can be transmitted from animals to humans. He urged the implementation of effective disease control measures at the grassroots level to ensure healthy livestock and protect public health. Additionally, he underscored the significance of Ethno Veterinary Medicine, particularly in light of rising Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR), which plays a crucial role in sustainable and responsible animal healthcare.

Educational Sessions and Farmer Engagement

The virtual awareness program featured expert-led sessions covering various critical topics, including pastoralism, ethnoveterinary medicine, biosecurity, vaccination practices, animal welfare, and relevant legal frameworks. Engaging videos about pastoralism and vaccination strategies were shared with participants to further enhance their understanding. Additionally, Prof. Baghel interacted directly with livestock farmers, addressing their grievances and answering queries related to government schemes and programs.

Commitment to Future of Livestock Farming

This initiative reflects the DAHD’s commitment to increasing awareness within the livestock and dairy sectors by utilizing digital platforms. It ensures that farmers across the nation have access to valuable information about animal welfare practices, enhanced husbandry techniques, and the pivotal role they play in fostering rural development.
