National Zoological Park Launches Swachhata Pakhwada 2026
Today, the National Zoological Park (NZP) in New Delhi kicked off its Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, a 15-day campaign dedicated to cleanliness and environmental awareness from June 1 to June 15. The initiative aims to foster public engagement in conservation, promote sustainable lifestyles, and enhance environmental stewardship, all in alignment with the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission and Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).
Campaign Kick-off Activities
The program commenced with a Mass Swachhata Pledge taken by participants, followed by an orientation session outlining the campaign’s objectives and activities. One of the highlights was a painting competition themed “Pollution among National Parks and Sanctuaries – Protected Areas,” which encouraged 44 students from 23 schools to creatively express their concerns and solutions regarding environmental pollution.
Engaging Activities Planned
Over the next two weeks, a diverse range of educational and participatory activities will take place, engaging school students, zoo visitors, staff members, and stakeholders. Some of the planned activities include:
- Nukkad Natak (street play) focusing on cleanliness and hygiene.
- Expert-led awareness programs on butterflies, moths, and fireflies to emphasize the ecological importance of insects.
- Plogging activities within the zoo, combining walking with litter collection.
- Clay modeling competitions centered around wildlife and birds.
- Screenings of educational videos related to Mission LiFE.
- Guided visits to the zoo highlighting wildlife conservation and habitat cleanliness.
- Essay writing and painting competitions stressing the themes of Swachh Bharat and clean zoos.
- Interactive sessions with visitors, including doodle campaigns and discussions on environmental awareness.
- Celebration of World Environment Day on June 5, featuring tree plantation activities and extensive cleanliness drives throughout the zoo.
- Student presentations on Mission LiFE and exhibitions of various created artworks.
- Concluding the campaign with a Mission LiFE Pledge on June 6, complemented by quizzes on environmental sustainability.
- Cleaning campaigns at ponds and wetlands in the park to boost ecosystem health.
- Segregation of unserviceable items for auction.
Promoting Environmental Responsibility
The Swachhata Pakhwada aims to instill a sense of environmental responsibility among participants, prompting a shift towards cleaner surroundings and sustainable practices. By promoting educational outreach and community involvement, the National Zoological Park seeks to heighten public awareness about the significance of cleanliness and environmental protection.
During the launch, the Director of the National Zoological Park highlighted the vital connection between cleanliness and conservation, noting that every individual has a role in safeguarding the environment for future generations.
