National Workshop on Administrative Data for Governance Set for February
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is set to host a pivotal National Level Consultative Workshop titled “Using Administrative Data for Governance: Harmonizing Departmental Data at State Level” on 24th February 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan. This initiative aims to bring together representatives from State and Union Territory governments, Central ministries, departments, and various stakeholders to enhance governance through better data management.
This workshop serves as a precursor to the much-anticipated National-Level Deliberative Summit, “Data for Development,” scheduled for April 2026. The upcoming summit will continue discussions initiated at the 5th National Conference of Chief Secretaries of State/UT, which took place in December 2025. The objective is to develop a structured national agenda that strengthens administrative data systems while promoting responsible harmonization of data across departments at the State and Union Territory levels.
Workshop Intentions and Discussions
During the consultative workshop, MoSPI will brief attendees on the goals, scope, and critical issues for further discussion in subsequent internal workshops at the State level. Experts from government, international agencies, industry, think tanks, and academia will be present to exchange insights on the harmonization of administrative data. They will also highlight successful case studies, which may serve as models for similar initiatives nationwide.
The valuable inputs gathered from these State-level workshops will be instrumental in informing the national summit in April 2026. The focus will be on identifying priority reform areas that require attention regarding the use and management of administrative data.
Participants and Engagement
Officers from the Planning and IT Departments of State and Union Territory governments, alongside representatives from Central Ministries and Departments, will attend this consultative workshop. Stakeholders from various sectors will also contribute to the discussions, fostering a collaborative atmosphere aimed at improving governance through enhanced data practices.
This workshop presents a critical opportunity for participants to engage in meaningful dialogue about how administrative data can be better utilized to improve governance and decision-making processes across levels of government.
