National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) Receives Udyog Award
National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) received the prestigious Udyog Vikas Award at an event organized by Janmabhumi Daily in Kerala. The ceremony was attended by Shri Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma, the Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Public Enterprises, and Steel. He emphasized the Union Governmentโs dedication to establishing advanced Greenfield Industrial Smart Cities throughout India. The event also highlighted the significant potential of the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Palakkad, which is set to transform the industrial landscape of Kerala and the southern region.
Significance of the Palakkad Industrial Smart City
The Palakkad Industrial Smart City is a landmark project that spans 1,710 acres across the regions of Pudussery Central, Pudussery West, and Kannambra. Strategically located just 21 kilometers from Palakkad city, 120 kilometers from Cochin, and 50 kilometers from Coimbatore, this initiative promises to enhance interstate connectivity and logistical efficiency. The project aims to attract high-quality investments and stimulate job creation and innovation in the region. With robust multi-modal connectivity options, including road, rail, and air, the Palakkad Industrial Smart City is poised to become a vital industrial hub for South India.
During the Udyog Vikas event, Minister Varma praised the IMC’s potential to reshape Kerala’s infrastructure and industrial framework. He noted that the project is not only significant for the local economy but also for the broader southern region, which stands to benefit from increased industrial activity and employment opportunities.
Progress and Milestones of the Project
The development of the Palakkad Industrial Smart City has already achieved several key milestones. Currently, 81% of the required land is in possession, and environmental clearances for all land parcels were granted as of January 1, 2025. Additionally, a Letter of Award has been issued to the Project Management and Construction Consultant, and the finalization of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) tender documents is underway. These advancements indicate a strong commitment to the timely execution of the project.
The event also featured a technical session that delved into the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme. This session provided detailed insights into the strategic vision and planning for the upcoming Palakkad Industrial Smart City, showcasing the government’s proactive approach to industrial development.
Innovations in Logistics and Technology
The Udyog Vikas event also highlighted the contributions of NICDC Logistics Data Services Ltd. (NLDSL) in revolutionizing India’s logistics ecosystem. Since its launch in September 2022, the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) has integrated 43 systems from 11 ministries, utilizing 129 APIs and over 1,800 data fields. This platform has empowered more than 1,300 registered companies and facilitated over 100 crore API transactions. Such technological advancements align with Prime Minister Narendra Modiโs vision for a unified, efficient, and transparent logistics network in India.
The integration of these digital solutions is expected to streamline logistics operations and enhance the overall efficiency of the supply chain, further supporting the growth of the industrial sector in India.
