National Fish Farmer’s Day 2023 Celebration

The Department of Fisheries has launched the Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge in partnership with the Startup Hub India and DPIIT, to identify, reward, and recognize startups creating an outstanding impact in the fisheries ecosystem. The fishing ecosystem in India has grown over the years, with fishing startups currently present in 21 states and union territories.

The Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge looked for applications across four problematic claims. The challenge received applications from 121 startups through problem statements. After rigorous analysis, 12 startups were selected as winners of the challenge.

The selected startups will be congratulated by the Minister of Fisheries, Livestock and Dairy Animals, Shri Parshottam Rupala in the presence of the Ministers of State, Fisheries, Livestock and Animal Husbandry, Dr L. Murugan and Dr Sanjeev Kumar Balyan together with fisheries ministers of various states and senior officials of central and state governments on National Fish Farmers Day on 10th July 2023 in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu.

The startups selected under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana will then receive a cash grant of INR 2 lakh to help them continue building their innovations.

The National Fish Farmer’s Day celebration event in Mahabalipuram on 10th July 2023 will feature an exhibit of 30 outstanding startups from across the country, showcasing the best in fishing innovators in the country. There will also be curated sessions for startups to help them further grow their business.
