National AI Skills Initiative Launched for Creative Industries

Mumbai, May 4, 2026 – The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, in partnership with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies, has launched a groundbreaking national initiative aimed at enhancing AI skills within the creative sector. This program, developed in collaboration with Google and YouTube, will provide 15,000 scholarships to nurture emerging talent in various fields, including media, entertainment, animation, gaming, and digital storytelling. Aspiring candidates are encouraged to seize this opportunity to bolster their careers by acquiring essential AI skills. Enrolment for this initiative is now open.

Two-Phase Approach to AI Mastery

The initiative employs a structured two-phase approach, ensuring participants gain both foundational knowledge and practical expertise in artificial intelligence.

Phase I: Foundation (Online)

The first phase emphasizes building core AI literacy at scale. The initiative offers 15,000 scholarships for Google Career Certificates and Google Cloud’s Generative AI learning paths. Participants will engage with approximately 33 hours of online training focused on generative AI fundamentals, effective prompting, and responsible AI practices. Through this phase, selected learners will have access to Google Career Certificates and key insights into Google Cloud’s Generative AI learning pathways, preparing them with practical knowledge and problem-solving skills relevant to real-world applications.

Phase II: Specialization (Hybrid)

Upon completing the foundational stage, participants will advance to the specialization phase, which emphasizes practical application through a hybrid learning model. This includes project-based experiences in storytelling, creative production, and the utilization of advanced AI tools. Co-developed by IICT and YouTube, the curriculum also integrates best practices to enhance reach and engagement across platforms. Participants will explore tools and applications through guided modules like Google Developers Codelabs.

Supporting Resources and Objectives

The program will be further supported by the “AI Skills House,” offering structured learning tracks that include generative AI applications, workflow automation, and decision-making tools. By merging technical skills with innovative application, the initiative aspires to develop a skilled workforce capable of driving progress in India’s rapidly changing media and digital landscape.

This program aligns with the government’s vision of bolstering India’s creative economy and marks a pivotal step towards integrating AI into mainstream content creation and production. It aims to cultivate high-potential talent across vital sectors like media, entertainment, animation, gaming, and digital storytelling.

The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) will spearhead this ambitious nationwide rollout, taking charge of curriculum development, candidate outreach, and overall program execution. IICT’s collaboration with Google and YouTube ensures that the curriculum is equipped with industry-relevant skills that prepare participants for a competitive market.

Dr. Vishwas Deoskar, CEO of IICT, emphasized that this initiative is designed to fulfill a national need by preparing creative professionals for the practical application of AI in various aspects of content creation, production, and distribution.
