Mumbai’s Regal Cinema Swaps Bharat Bhhagya Vidhata and Main Vaapas Aaunga for Obsession

There have been numerous film releases this week, yet “Obsession” continues to hold its ground at the box office. As of June 12, the film entered its third week with a collection of Rs. 3.50 crores, surpassing its second Friday earnings of Rs. 3.30 crores. This upward trend suggests that “Obsession” may outpace its second-week earnings, which totaled Rs. 31.28 crores, and could potentially exceed its first-week collection of Rs. 18.55 crores. Notably, “Obsession” has outperformed several new releases, including “Haunted – Echoes Of The Past,” “Main Vaapas Aaunga,” and “Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata.”

Theatres Respond to Demand

Recognizing the film’s sustained popularity, theatres are increasing the number of showings. The iconic Regal cinema in Mumbai began screening “Obsession” for the first time since its release on June 12, with showtimes at 1:30 pm and 9:45 pm. Initially, Regal had scheduled showings for “Main Vaapas Aaunga” and “Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata,” but starting Saturday, it will feature “Obsession” in all four show slots, likely due to the underwhelming performance of other Hindi releases.

In addition to Regal, “Obsession” has also started screening at other venues such as Mukta A2 Sun City, New Excelsior, and Gold Santacruz. A trade expert commented, “These are not cinemas where niche Hollywood films are released, that too in the English version. But then, Obsession is no longer niche. The word has spread and people want to check it out, including a section of the masses.”

Affordable Ticket Prices Attract Viewers

The pricing strategy at these theatres is also contributing to the film’s success. Regal is offering tickets for “Obsession” at Rs. 150, Rs. 200, and Rs. 250. In Sun City, morning show tickets are priced at just Rs. 130, while night show tickets range from Rs. 220 to Rs. 250. Gold Santacruz offers tickets for a mere Rs. 150, and New Excelsior charges only Rs. 200 for admission.

The expert further explained, “These theatres have reasonably priced tickets, even on weekends, and hence, viewers will now get a chance to see the film without burning a hole in their pocket.” With its continued success, “Obsession” has crossed the Rs. 50 crore mark, bringing its total collections to Rs. 53.33 crores after 15 days. If the film maintains its momentum, it stands a good chance of entering the coveted Rs. 100 crore club.
