Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Advances with Electrification Milestone
The Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is moving forward with significant progress as the installation of Overhead Electrification (OHE) masts continues along the corridor. This milestone plays a crucial role in enabling electric traction for India’s first high-speed rail system. The project not only emphasizes consistent on-ground execution but also enhances domestic manufacturing capabilities, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
OHE Masts Installation Underway
The installation of OHE masts is taking place across key segments of the railway alignment, including critical viaduct stretches. These masts are essential for ensuring safe, smooth, and efficient operations of high-speed trains. They will provide the necessary traction infrastructure to deliver a reliable power supply for the bullet trains in the corridor.
Over 20,000 OHE masts, standing between 9.5 to 14.5 metres tall, will be strategically installed along the route. These vertical steel structures, placed on elevated viaducts, will support the complete 2×25 kV overhead traction power system. This system includes overhead wires, earthing provisions, fittings, and various accessories critical for bullet train operations.
Supporting Infrastructure Development
To ensure a constant supply of traction power, a network of Traction Substations (TSS) and Distribution Substations (DSS) is also being established along the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor. These substations will play a vital role in maintaining the power supply required for the smooth operation of the bullet trains.
Future Impact on Travel and Economy
Upon completion, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train is set to revolutionize travel between the two cities, making it faster and more convenient. This infrastructure project is expected to enhance connectivity throughout the region, benefiting passengers and local economies. It will also stimulate job creation and bolster Indian industry by strengthening manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, the project marks a significant stride toward the adoption of advanced rail technology and the establishment of world-class rail infrastructure in India.
