Ms. Jaya Varma Sinha takes charge as Chairperson and CEO, Railway Board

SM. Jaya Varma Sinha taken today in Rail Bhavan. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mrs. Jaya Varma Sinha as Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board. She is the first woman to be appointed to this senior position in Indian Railways.

Previously, Ms. Jaya Varma Sinha served as a member (Operations and Business Development) of the Railway Board. Ms. Sinha was responsible for the overall transportation of freight and passenger services on Indian Railways.

Ms. Jaya Varma Sinha joined Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) in 1988. In her more than 35-year career in Indian Railways, she has worked in various important positions as Railway Board Member (Operations and Business Development) , Additional Member, Road Transport , Railway Council. You have worked across multiple verticals ranging from Operations, Commercial, IT and Supervisory. She was also the first woman to be appointed Principal Chief Operations Manager of the South Eastern Railway. She had worked as a railway adviser at the High Commission of India in Dhaka, Bangladesh, during which the famous Maitri Express from Calcutta to Dhaka was inaugurated.

Ms. Sinha is a student of Allahabad University and has a keen interest in photography.
